S'more Kits For Any Occasion (Tutorial)

This Christmas I'm giving S'more kits to my neighbors and friends.  Who doesn't like a gooey, delicious S'more?  Well, I hope they do!  I also hope they'll make them together as a family or with friends, and that it will be a fun time they can spend together.  There are two versions of the kit, one in a box, and one in a bag.  I've included a generic tag so that you can make one of these kits for any occasion.

Version One
S'mores Kit in a Box

Here are the items you'll need.

The boxes are from Wal-mart.  They measure @ 7 x 8 x 3 1/2".   You can buy 5 of them for $3 (check the Christmas section).  To make the window, first cut a circle in the top of the box.

Cut out a piece of cello wrap and glue it over the circle.  Spread it outward with your fingers as you press it down to make it nice and tight.

Cut a piece of poster board, fold it into thirds, and place it inside of the box (It should be about 3/4" from the top of the box).

For the fill, run used brown paper sacks through a home shredder (just like you shred your personal documents).  It works great, (comes out un-even and chunky, perfect for a s'mores kit) and doesn't cost any money!  Cut a piece of poster board or heavy card stock and place it next to the folded poster board.  This keeps the candy bars in place.  Add a package of graham crackers.

Next add the candy bars (pkg. of 8) and marshmallows (12-packaged in a cello sack).  I included  one of the photo/recipe blocks that I made in each of the kits.

Include bamboo skewers to use as the roasting sticks.  (Put the marshmallow on the skewer and hold it over a hot stove-plate to toast the marshmallow).  You can buy a package of 100 bamboo skewers for $1.  Cut the length of the skewers down with pruning sheers so they will fit in the box and then cut a notch in the poster board to keep them in place.

Next add a tag with the kit's contents and directions.  If you don't include a photo block,  place the marshmallows next to the candy bars and then put the tag to the side of them.

Or

I've included a tag that you can use for any occasion.  (If you use the images you will want to download them.  These images won't print clearly.)

Use these tags for any occasion.

Here's a view of the contents through the window in the lid.

Cut a piece of jute, thread your tag through it and tie it in a bow.  I typed the name of who I was giving it to in the white space on the tag before I printed it.

Version Two
S'mores Kit in a Bag

The party sacks cost less than the boxes, around $2 for 10 of them.  To add the window, follow the directions for the box kit.

Start with some fill on the bottom of the sack.  Add your graham crackers and stack all but one of the candy bars next to them.  Place the skewers sideways in the sack.

Stack the marshmallows on top of the candy bars.

Place the extra candy bar in front of the marshmallows.

Fold  the top of the sack down.  Punch holes for the jute.  Thread the jute through the sack and tags and tie a bow in the front.

These kits can take a bit of time to put together, but when you think of the potential memories that can be made, it makes it all worthwhile!

If anyone else is having problems with downloading it may be because you aren't accessing the post through a direct link, for example if you are coming from Tip Junkie. Use this direct link and hopefully you won't have any problems. :)

Made these for my Nephew's families... They were a hit! I found "smore" marshmallow's this Walmart they are rectangular and flat. Perfect for little hands! I will definitely be adding this to my next years list!

To Wendy: Thanks for your comment, I'm glad they were a hit. :) I've been meaning to buy the s'more marshmallows to try, I bet they would look cute in the kit too.

I'm doing this for a "classy" white elephant party (we're supposed to bring gifts people actually want, not gag gifts). Would you believe how hard it is to find those photo blocks? I called 3 different craft stores (who barely even knew what I was talking about...), and my mom finally found some at Pier 1. I really wanted one of those so it would be something the receiver could keep after the s'mores were gone. Thank you for the tutorial and printable tags!!

Isn't that always the case when you've made up your mind that you can't find it! :) I had no clue they would be so hard to find, I'm glad your mom was able to come through for you! Thanks for your comment Beth, Merry Christmas!

I used your idea for my purim baskets this year. As an American living in England, it was nice to educate the natives with a time honored US tradition. They loved it. The label and recipe really added a special touch and it looked so professional.

To Jesuisunique1: Great idea to give them Smore's, glad they loved them! Thanks for your comment. :
