Fun New Sites

 

One of my favorite places to find great new ideas is Ucreate.   It was just posted that Ucreate has expanded and now has; Ucreate with kids, Ucreate Food, and Ucreate Parties.  I'm excited and think they will be great resources.

Printable Halloween Fishing Game

Before I added the Halloween Fish to the Halloween Fish? Say what? post, I printed out a letter sized sheet of them to make sure they looked okay when they were printed.  Not wanting it to just go to waste, I used it to make a fishing game for my kids and guess what, I have a free printable of it for you too!

It only took about 15 minutes to make this fishing game.  The stick is a bamboo skewer (with the point cut off).  Obviously, if you're using a magnet and paperclips, you'll want to supervise your young children so they don't choke on anything.

My two youngest kids had a lot of fun fishing.  When they caught a fish they would look at the back of it, pretending there was something written on it, and then proceed to 'read' it. :)

*I think this would be a fun Halloween classroom party game.  You could write something on the back of the fish (for real) for the children to read, maybe some simple questions that if answered correctly they could choose a piece of candy!   Happy fishing!  Have a nice weekend!

Halloween Fish? Say what?

Years ago, before there were craft blogs packed with ideas, Silhouette and Cricut machines to do our cutting, and fancy shmancy printers,  I was asked to be in charge of putting together a fishing pond for our neighborhood Halloween Carnival.  Okay, it was only around 6 years ago, I'm not that old, but I didn't have any of those things at the time. ;)

What I did have was construction paper, scissors, and a determination to make a fishing pond that was unusual and fun. 

This is how the idea came about for

 'Halloween Fish'.

It all started with this one here...'Jack 'O Fish'...

(Okay, so it looks like a basketball, I tried.)

 ...then'Cat Fish'...

...then 'Spiderfish'...
(Yes, I know he's missing a leg, but that happens sometimes, right? I'm sure it's around here somewhere...)

...'Ghostopus'... 

(He's seen better days too, but you get the idea.)

...and 'Moonfish'.

(Remember, these were the freehand days, don't be looking too closely!)

 ...and here they are all together on a very wrinkled sheet. 

(Umm...a...just think of the wrinkles as ripples in the water.)

If you want to make these to decorate a fishing pond for your childs' classroom party, or for a neighborhood carnival, they really aren't that difficult to make.  I traced around a salad plate to get the round part of the fish, added fins, and then used it as a template to make the other fish.  With all of the great resources we have now, I'm positive you could make them look a lot cuter, much much cuter! 

Although these fish have seen better days (we use them every year), I thought it was still worth passing the idea on. :)

They're Ready!

To copy the fish, click on an image and wait for it to load.  Right click on it and either click copy, to copy and paste it into a document, or click save picture as, to save it to your computer.  You can size them to however big you want them to be.  My fish are around 9"x12" and the 'Ghostopus' is about twice that.  Where that size would take a lot of ink to print, I think it would also be fun to print them smaller and have a few more fish, just a thought.
